If you suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, you likely also have insomnia. Insomnia and ADHD tend to o hand in hand because the patient’s mind is running faster than the boy wants to. In other words, you may be incredibly tired, but your mind will not allow you to get a good night’s worth of sleep. If this is the case for you, there are a few different things you can do that may lessen the insomnia a bit. Below are some tips to follow for a more restful lifestyle.
One of the easiest ways to help your insomnia and ADHD is to lessen the amount of stressful activities you do in a night. Any homework or stressful paperwork needs to be done earlier in the day so your brain has more time to relax at night. Instead of thinking a lot at night, just listen to some music or watch TV. Murder mysteries might not b ideal because you could be thinking about what will happen next, but a funny sitcom or a talk show will be just fine. This will all help you calm down before you go to bed so you can start sleeping easier.
Believe it or not, sex will also help your insomnia. Sure a night of wild passion may not be a good idea, but some soft, slow intercourse will allow you to release endorphins and relax all of your muscles right before bed. If you don’t have a partner, you might have to take care of this part on your own. Try to switch things up a bit so the “alone time” doesn’t just become a routine. It needs to be new and eventful every time. Making it a habit will lose all of the effect.
Other than the above, try not to drink too much water right before bed because the “need to go to the bathroom” feelings will only make matters worse. You’ll end up waking up late at night to do that, and then you’ll have to let your mind wind down all over again. While your mind is racing, try to just think about what is happening right now in your life. It’s easy to panic about future plans and the like, but you cannot get yourself worked up. Playing soft music or nature sounds while you sleep may work well to tune those thoughts out of your mind. Try that if you think it will work for you.
